A Tiny Series // Year of Petite Art Journals #7

Ah, another month, another tiny journal! This one was one of my favourites to complete, and comes in at 3″ x 2.5″ small. I used part of a large brown envelope to make this guy. I wasn’t sure on the direction I wanted to take it, but I had prepped a couple of pages a few months ago when I made it. After some indecision, a theme came to me after I bought tickets to see Blink 182 at the start of July. It was my second time seeing them live (and the first since they replaced Tom DeLonge) and my excitement for seeing one of my lifelong favourite bands was at an all-time high. I knew what my topic for July’s journal would be – my love for all emo/pop-punk/alternative music. Music was a large part of my formative years growing up and I still love these genres the most. I set out to emulate the grungy/punk vibes and fill it with some lyrics from songs that either defined some of my teen years or current ones that I’m loving.

Music is such a core part of our identity, and there’s science showing that music we listen to and love in our pre-teen to teen years becomes the most defining music of our lives. That’s why will always love the bands we loved when we were 15, still, remember the lyrics years later and gravitate towards that genre even as adults. I’ve discovered some new bands that I think I’ll love just as much as the ones I started loving at 14, and so my love for pop-punk music continues on.
